ExpertFlyer vs MilesZone: booking classes against award prices in miles
Checked on October 7, 2026 on ExpertFlyer's own pages by the MilesZone team. Sources
If you are looking for an ExpertFlyer alternative to find award seats priced in miles, this page decides one thing: which tool tells you what a seat costs in Avios or miles, and when. ExpertFlyer vs MilesZone is not a like-for-like match. ExpertFlyer shows booking-class inventory, upgrades and seat maps per airline. MilesZone shows what each mileage programme charges for a seat, in miles plus cash fees, over a whole calendar.
- The price in miles and cash fees for each programme, not a booking-class count you have to translate.
- 60 days of free search with an account: the next 60 days of a route in one calendar, not a few days around one date.
- Alerts on up to 25 routes on Pro, each seat re-checked with the programme before the email leaves.
Is ExpertFlyer worth it?
ExpertFlyer is worth it for elite flyers who track booking classes, upgrade space and seat maps on specific flights: Premium, $12.99 a month, brings 250 alerts and unlimited queries, and Elite adds systemwide upgrade search. It answers "is there a seat in this booking class", not "how many miles does this cost".
For award travel on points it is a weaker fit: the free account has no award availability, Basic searches one date at a time, and results are booking classes per airline rather than prices in each programme's miles.
MilesZone shows each programme's miles and cash fees for the same flight side by side, free for departures in the next 60 days; Pro adds route alerts and 12 months of dates. Search a route to compare.

Where MilesZone differs from ExpertFlyer
Four ways ExpertFlyer and MilesZone answer different award questions, from ExpertFlyer's plan, FAQ and airline pages on October 7, 2026.
The price in miles, not a booking class
ExpertFlyer reads airline inventory: how many seats sit in an award or upgrade booking class on a flight. It does not book, and it does not tell you what a seat costs in a given programme.
MilesZone shows the price: what each programme charges for the seat in miles and cash fees. On New York to Paris, below, Atmos Rewards, Flying Blue and LifeMiles sit in one table, so you know which programme to use before you move a single point.

60 days at once, not one date or one week
An ExpertFlyer award search on Basic covers one date at a time and caps you at 250 queries a month; Premium moves in one-week steps. On American Airlines searches, its own page calls ±3 days around your date a hard limit.
MilesZone shows the next 60 days of a route in one calendar, free with an account, with no daily search cap. Every date with a seat appears at once, with each programme's price. MilesZone Pro opens departures up to 12 months out.

Whole journeys, not segments
ExpertFlyer asks you to search each segment of a connection on its own, as a direct flight, and warns that award inventory is not valid on codeshares. A connecting trip means stitching segments together yourself.
MilesZone reads the journey the programme sells for your route, connections included where the programme offers them, with one price in miles and one set of cash fees.
Award search on the free plan
ExpertFlyer's free account covers seat maps and one seat alert. Its FAQ is explicit: award and upgrade availability needs a Basic or Premium plan, after a 5-day trial.
On MilesZone, award search is free with an account, no card needed: the next 60 days of any route MilesZone reads.

Every programme we read, on one page.
Search a route and see each programme's miles with the cash on top, for every date in the window.

Where ExpertFlyer needs Basic before any award search, MilesZone searches the next 60 days free with an account, with no card. MilesZone Pro is $17 a month or $127 a year, one feature set on both, opening with a 7-day free trial; it adds alerts on up to 25 routes, 12 months of departures and a live re-check of a seat before you transfer points.
