Only routes landing at a US airport are ranked; the other 27 of the 155 routes in the "Europe to the Americas" pair go to Canada, the Caribbean and Latin America and are listed in the business-class award price study.
What does London to New York cost in business class with points?
London (LHR) to New York (JFK) is the benchmark route from the UK, and 5 programs had a business seat on it in the October 2026 study. Many UK travellers hold Avios, so the table shows how British Airways Club sat against the other programs on the same route. The route's live page is London (LHR) to New York (JFK).
| Program | Typical price | Lowest seat seen | Dates with a seat | Nonstop seat seen |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Atmos Rewards | 45,000 Atmos points | 45,000 Atmos points | 57 of 60 | Yes |
| LifeMiles | 62,100 miles | 62,100 miles | 3 of 60 | No |

| Virgin Atlantic Flying Club | 345,000 Virgin Points | 47,500 Virgin Points | 32 of 60 | Yes |
British Airways Club quotes no cash in the data MilesZone reads, so its taxes are missing here. Departures from UK airports also carry Air Passenger Duty, charged at a higher rate in business class, which is one reason the cash on an award leaving London can sit well above the same award leaving the US. More on Avios prices from the UK is in how many Avios for business class.

The table names the program behind each price instead of averaging across currencies. A city near the top is a candidate for a short positioning hop if your own airport only has the dearer programs.

Heathrow or Gatwick: which is cheaper for the US?
Neither airport wins everywhere in the October 2026 study. Heathrow had 18 routes to the US with seats from 5 programs, Atmos Rewards cheapest on 10 of them. Its cheapest was London (LHR) to New York (JFK) at 45,000 Atmos points, and on 7 of the 18 the cheapest program had a seat on at least half the dates. Gatwick had 17 routes to the US with seats from 4 programs, Air France-KLM Flying Blue cheapest on 9 of them. Its cheapest was London (LGW) to Miami (MIA) at 70,000 Atmos points, and on 10 of the 17 the cheapest program had a seat on at least half the dates.
Different airlines fly from each, and a program can only price the flights it sells. The comparison says which airport's routes had cheaper seats in this window, not that one airport is always the cheaper start.

What does this ranking leave out?
- Cash. The rank uses miles or points only: British Airways Club quotes no cash in the data and most other programs give a floor, so taxes are not compared here.
- Passengers: one adult, one way.
- Dates: departures from October 5, 2026 to December 3, 2026.
Questions.
- Is it cheaper to fly from London or from elsewhere in Europe?
- It depends on the route and the program. Among European airports with at least 5 routes to the US in the October 2026 study, Amsterdam (AMS) had the cheapest route, Amsterdam (AMS) to Boston (BOS) at 45,000 Atmos points with Atmos Rewards.
- Can I fly out on one program and back on another?
- Yes. Award seats are sold one way, so the outbound and the return are separate bookings. Pairing the cheapest program each way is often cheaper than a single program for both.
- Why do Avios prices show no taxes?
- British Airways Club quotes no cash amount in the data MilesZone reads. The program's own checkout shows the taxes, fees and carrier charges before you confirm.
