Which miles program is cheapest on the same route?

LifeMiles, against every other program, on most of the routes they had in common. A fair comparison only counts routes where both programs had a seat: a program that only prices short, cheap crossings would otherwise look cheap. Read across: the row program had the lower typical price on this many of the routes it shared with the column program. Prices and method come from the October 2026 study, and what each program costs on its own is in business class to Europe with miles.

Flying Blue vs Atmos, LifeMiles vs Avios: the closest match-ups

Four of the pairings, in words, on routes from US airports to Europe where both programs had a seat:

  • Atmos vs Flying Blue: 76 shared routes, Atmos Rewards cheaper on 45, Air France-KLM Flying Blue on 31.
  • LifeMiles vs BA Club: 16 shared routes, LifeMiles cheaper on 15, British Airways Club on 1.

  • Flying Blue vs Virgin Atlantic: 12 shared routes, Air France-KLM Flying Blue cheaper on 11, Virgin Atlantic Flying Club on 1.

Which program has a business seat on the most dates?

Air France-KLM Flying Blue, with a seat on 84% of the dates read on its routes. The full order:

  • Air France-KLM Flying Blue: a seat on 84% of dates, typically 233,500 miles.
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club: a seat on 72% of dates, typically 350,000 miles.
  • Atmos Rewards: a seat on 58% of dates, typically 175,000 miles.
  • British Airways Club: a seat on 19% of dates, typically 99,000 miles.
  • LifeMiles: a seat on 15% of dates, typically 72,000 miles.

Of the 10 possible pairs, 9 follow the same rule: the program with fewer typical miles had a seat on fewer dates. Cheap and available rarely come together, which is the whole argument of cheap programs or available programs.

Flying Blue business class, LifeMiles and the rest: who suits whom?

  • LifeMiles: typical 72,000 miles, a seat on 15% of dates, cash on top at least $56. Avianca's program sells Star Alliance seats, United and Lufthansa among them. Check it first when your dates can move by a few days.
  • British Airways Club: typical 99,000 miles, a seat on 19% of dates, cash on top not quoted. Avios also book Iberia and Aer Lingus, and a balance can be shared with them. MilesZone gets no cash figure from it, so the taxes and carrier charges only show at British Airways' checkout.
  • Atmos Rewards: typical 175,000 miles, a seat on 58% of dates, cash on top at least $30. The Alaska Airlines and Hawaiian Airlines program prices partner flights, so the same miles buy very different seats from one route to the next. Check it on every search, route by route.
  • Air France-KLM Flying Blue: typical 233,500 miles, a seat on 84% of dates, cash on top at least $359. Prices move with demand, and Flying Blue publishes Promo Rewards each month with lower prices on selected routes, so the figure here is a level, not a fixed rate.
  • Virgin Atlantic Flying Club: typical 350,000 miles, a seat on 72% of dates, cash on top at least $692. Virgin Points also book partners such as Delta and Air France-KLM, but MilesZone reads only Virgin Atlantic's own flights for now. Compare its cash with the others' before its miles.

A mile in one program is not worth a point in another. Compare what you hold, or can transfer, against the price in that currency, not the raw numbers across programs.

Why is Thai Royal Orchid Plus not in the comparison?

It had no seat on any route between a US airport and Europe in the October 2026 study: MilesZone reads it for Star Alliance seats, and its search does not reach airports in the mainland United States. Where Thai Royal Orchid Plus does have business seats.

How do you pick a program for your own trip?

  1. Find out which programs price your route at all: on 112 of the 128 routes from US airports to Europe, three or fewer had a seat.
  2. Check the cheapest of those on your dates first, then fall back to the one that usually has a seat.
  3. Weigh the cash with the miles. The lowest quoted cash was at least $30 (Atmos Rewards) and the highest at least $692 (Virgin Atlantic Flying Club); most figures are a floor, so the real gap can be wider.
  4. Confirm the seat before you move points: how to book award flights.

Questions.

Is Flying Blue better than Aeroplan for Europe?
This comparison cannot say: MilesZone does not read Aeroplan, so it has no Aeroplan prices to set against Flying Blue. Among the programs it does read, the tables above give Flying Blue's price and availability against each of the others.
Should I collect miles in one program or several?
Several, if your points come from a bank that transfers to more than one. On 112 of the 128 US-to-Europe routes, three or fewer programs had any seat, so a balance you can send to whichever program has the seat is worth more than a bigger balance stuck in one.
